Grown Ups Usually Warn Their Youngsters Not To Throw Hard Heavy Objects On The Television Sets' Screens. Is It Possible That A Television Set Explodes When Such An Object Is Thrown At It's Screen?
|
CRT screen tend to be very strong - and will often survive a deliberate attempt to smash them. IF however you manage to do this, the screen will actually IMPLODE rather than EXPLODE - as the tube contains a near perfect vacuum. No flames or flashes etc, but a loud bang as the glass smashes and air rushes in to replace the vacuum. The danger is that the glass is "sucked in" by the atmospheric pressure in the room, it then sweeps around the back of the tube and comes zooming out the front. Result - flying glass Modern tubes however are designed to make such an event less hazardous - mainly due to the actual shape of the tube.
