I resently saw a show about tornados that reinacted a turn of the century wind speed test. A college professor in the midwest had noticed that the dead chickens killed by a tornado had lost their feathers. Using a civil war cannon, he shot a dead chicken into the air and with simple ballistic calculations determined the speed to be around 300 MPH.
Since tornados have winds from 100 MPH plus, my question is, "AT WHAT SPEED DOES A CHICKEN ACTUALLY LOOSE IT'S FEATHERS?" This could be tested by reusing the "Chicken Gun" from the airplane windshield test and face it, what is more fitting to the Mythbusters that shooting dead animals into the air for the sake of science? Note, must use actual nonfrozen chicken, not Jamie, and be shot out head first. |
